Nags Head Beach dog owners can obtain a license in person, by mail, or online. Dogs over four months old are eligible for licensing. For licensing purposes, the owner must provide a current rabies vaccination certificate. The license must be registered by January 31st. Dogs in the area should always wear their collar with their tags attached.

  • Canopies and tents must be removed from the beach upon leaving. Beach equipment must be drawn between 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.
  • A beach driving permit is needed from October 1 to April 30. 
  • A permit is required from Nags Head Fire and Rescue for bonfires on the beach. Fireworks are disallowed on the beach.
  • Alcohol is allowed on the beach, but glass containers are forbidden.
  • Digging holes on the beach is prohibited
  • Surf fishing and Fishing are allowed on the beach with permits. 
  • Overnight camping is banned on the beach.
