Sullivan’s Island beach dog rules are in place to ensure a safe and happy time for all visitors, pet owners, and pets. The beautiful Sullivan’s Island in South Carolina is the perfect place to spend beach time with your pet dog.

The beach on this island is welcoming to all pet owners. There are pet-friendly restaurants and rentals near and around the beach, too.

Sullivans Island Dog Rules, Laws, and Policies

  • All residents must carry a town-issued Sullivan’s Island Dog License or Permit to take their dogs to the beach.
  • All dogs must be kept in check by their owners.
  • Pet owners must properly dispose of their pet’s waste. Pet waste bags are available at the pathway to the beach entrance.
  • From May 1 to September 30, no dogs are allowed on the beach from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm. They must be kept on a leash from 6:00 pm – 5:00 am.
  • From October 1 to April 30, dogs are allowed at all times. The on-leash duration during this time is from 12 Noon to 5:00 am.

Sullivan’s Island Dog License

According to Sullivan’s Island Dog Rules, all pet owners must carry Dog Licenses to take their dogs out in public anywhere on the Island. These permits are issued at the Town Hall located at 2050 B Middle Street. A yearly pass for a Sullivan’s Island resident costs $25 per dog; for visitors, it’s $50 per dog.

You can also obtain this license via mail by paying a handling fee of $10. Citizens of the Island need to show their valid driver’s license as proof of citizenship of Sullivan’s Island. An updated rabies vaccination certificate of the pet needs to be submitted along with the application form for the permit.

The permit remains valid till December 31, the year of issuance. All permits are required to be renewed on January 1.

How to reach Sullivan’s Island Beach

Sullivan’s Island is located just south of Charleston. Charleston Airport is the closest airport to the beach, at 19.6 miles. A half-hour drive from the airport will take you to the beach.

Sullivan’s Island is in Charleston County, South Carolina, United States. The beach is positioned near the opening of Charleston Harbor beside the Isle of Palms. The Atlantic Ocean borders the Island. The Ben Sawyer Bridge connects the Island with mainland Charleston.

Sullivan’s Island Beach is famous for being the least commercialized beach in South Carolina. It’s mostly quiet and easygoing throughout the year, but summers bring in huge crowds from the neighboring cities. The length of this beach is 2.5 miles.   • Dog-friendly restaurants: Sullivan’s Island is home to six dog-friendly restaurants. These restaurants allow your pets to dine with you at their outdoor tables. Poe’s Tavern, High Thyme Cuisine, Beardcat’s Sweet Shop, and Home Team BBQ are some of these restaurants.
  • Rentals: Many rentals and Air B&Bs are available near Sullivan’s Island Beach. Houses, cottages, beachfront condos, and other options are available here. The price range varies from $233 to $342 per night.
  • Beach hours: Sullivan’s Island beaches close at 11 pm. All entry to the beach is prohibited during this time.

Sullivans Island Beach Rules

  • All kinds of beach activities are forbidden after 11 p.m.
  • All dogs must be licensed and comply with the Animal and Fowl Ordinance.
  • Prohibited items on the beach include plastic, polystyrene, and glass containers.
  • Alcoholic beverages and smoking, including vapes and cigars, are prohibited on the beach.
  • Motorized vehicles, including golf carts, are disallowed on beach paths or beaches.
